Interlibrary Loan
If you're looking for a title and you come up to the Reference Desk or call us on the telephone, we will go through the following steps to try to get it for you:
- First we will attempt to find the item for you within The Belvedere-Tiburon Library's own collection.
- If we don't have the item on the shelf in Tiburon, we will attempt to get if for you from another public library in Marin via the MARINet network. There is no charge if you go to the other library to pick up the book, but if we have it sent to Tiburon the charge will be $0.50. There is also a $0.50 charge if all copies are checked out and you would like to place a hold.
- If the item isn't available from MARINet, we will attempt to get it from another library in Northern California using a tool called SuperSearch. If we can get the book for you via SuperSearch, the charge will be $1.00. SuperSearch requests typically take 1 to 2 weeks to fill.
- If the item isn't available from SuperSearch, we will attempt to get it for you via Interlibrary Loan (ILL), which involves requesting it from academic and public libraries across the United States. If we are able to get the item for you using ILL, the charge will be $2.00. We are unable to get the following materials using ILL: books published within the past year, and all CDs, DVDs, videos, and audio books. Interlibrary loan requests typically take from 1 to 3 weeks to fill.
For more information about SuperSearch and Interlibrary Loan, please call the Reference Desk at 789-2661 during open hours.
